| IGN has the exclusive on Rockstar's latest project, and who would believe it - a table tennis game. Our reaction was similar to IGN's: "Rockstar Games, the innovator of urban cool in videogames, the guys who changed the face of this console generation and who made it OK for adults to play games without shame, was making a Ping Pong game." Now this is intriguing. Surely Rockstar, acclaimed developers of one of the biggest games ever, GTA, aren't going to churn out a run-of-the-mill table tennis title. They are sure to execute it in a manner that could start a ping pong revival. All you have to do is check the 4 screenshots below to see that Rockstar Presents Table Tennis is going to be pretty. Check out the guy's sweat band and forearm muscles - now that looks like next-gen graphics to me. Rockstar's Sam Houser explains that the team's love of table tennis is the root of the game's inception, but it also appears to be a prime canditate for showcasing the true meaning of next generation gaming. "These are not just higher resolution graphics, but using higher resolution graphics and hugely advanced animation systems to impart physical and emotional information to the player, so that the control and tactics of the game are more real and more diverse than on current-generation titles", he said. Anyone who has watched professional table tennis will know it is a game relying on lightening-fast reactions. This fast-paced fury is the common link between ping pong and GTA - and the reason that Rockstar believe they can make this game work. The game will be priced at $39.99 - considerably cheaper than other Xbox 360 games. Not sure about you, but I like this. I want to see it moving. |
