| The disc scratching that can happen when playing Xbox 360 might be more common than first thought. Originally, only moving the console while the disc was spinning, and occasionally leaving the console in the horizontal position, would cause scratches. However, a member at Sengo.com has reported the X360 scratched his copy of Halo 2 in the vertical position. "My Xbox 360 has been leaving scratches on my discs. On some of my discs it is leaving small scratches which don't effect gameplay at all. On one of my discs, which happens to be Halo 2, has left a large, deep, circular scratch around my disc. Now my game is unplayable," EthanDM said. "Supposedly Microsoft will not cover my game, but they say they can take my Xbox 360 to run tests and fix what they can. This Xbox 360 has really ticked me off, it also randomly freezes and crashes." Take a look at the image below to see the scratches made on the CD by the Xbox 360. This is worrying - has anyone else had problems like this? |

| Well if people would read the instructions this wouldn't happen.I am guilty. I stood the unit up while it was running and it put a deep circular scratch in my Condemed disk. But I am honest about it. Most of these so called "problems" are from dishonest people. It says that if you are going to move your 360 you should remove the disk. Some people are tring to stand the unit up while there is a disk running. I highly doubt that the 360 scratches on its own. | |||

| ya i tested it my self with my gun game eather way i play the 360 as long as i dont move it while its spinniing it come out un toched. | |||

| yes I did the dumb ass thing and moved it... the top skin of the system is thin and unsupported around the DVD drive and pushing or putting stuff on top of it (in the horizontal position) will cause it to push the DVD down onto the tray and making the ring... not sure exactly what rubs on it but it is because their is no support for the cover over the DVD drive... I am not blaming MS I am just saying that is what it is. I stuck a couple of crap CDs in to test it that are ruined anyways after i marred by NFS:MW. | |||

| My friend had the same problem and he sent his disc to disc hospital online. They repair scratched discs professionally. I would check them out since he showed me some older games he had. They look pretty good I must say. | |||

| My problems seems to be different from the rest of you. I was playing Gears of War yesterday, in the horizontal position, I did not move it at all and all of a sudden it says "Disc Cannot Be Read" so i take the disc out only to find a circular scratch exacltly like the on pictured above. Anybody know if there is anything that can be done about this? | |||

| I was playing Gears of War in the verical position as well. 1/2 way through the training mission the drive starts vibrating like crazy and I get a can not read disc. I ejected it and behold, a nice ring. I called up support and was told they have NEVER received one complaint of this happening unless you move it while its running. So I am screwed. Cost me $12 per min to play for 5 min. Thanks Microsoft! Complain people or nothing can be fixed with this issue! | |||

| So Im not the only one..Bought Gears of War yesterday, played it for 1hr and by disc drive starts hauling but and then game stops and tells me the disc is unreadable and clean with cloth. So I take the disc out and behold a scratch all the way around on the outer part of the CD. Well I say its a fluke, thought maybe it was there when I bought it. Took it back and got the game replaced with a new one. Played that one 30min and stopped just to check the disc. Same scratch in the same place and never touched the 360. | |||

| I took mine back and got another disc. This one runs perfectly with no vibration at all... It seems as if they got a bad batch of discs... But, according to Microsoft its ALL our fault. Like I have said, if something is wrong call and complain. I was told they would replace the disc with another title, but I didn't want Viva Pinata or Kameo LOL. My main concern though is, when Halo 3 comes out and I put it in will this happen again? Lets hope not! | |||

| I have had Gears of War for about 3 weeks. Up until yesterday it was playin great. I took the 360 and the game to a friends house, they knocked it over a few times, but the game played fine. Then today, after playing the game for 2 hours, I get that same unreadable disk screen, NOT KNOCKING IT OVER in that period of time, and open the drive to find a huge white ring close to the outer rim of the disk. Don't have the original receipt either... go figure. Only thing is the game still starts up, but I can't play campaign. Haven't had the chance to see if multiplayer works or not. | |||

| I've got the same thing with my Call of Duty 3. I've had the Xbox 360 for more than a year and never had this happen, but I think I moved it from a vertical to horizontal position when CoD3 was playing. My bad. | |||

| My xbox is scratching my games and I dont move mine at all. It's leaving a perfect circle on the outer edges of my discs. Now the two that I play the most are no longer playable. Anyone else having this problem or know why its happening? | |||

| I was playing GOW when I heard the system chunk the disc. It doesn't have any marks on the disc, but now my xbox won't read any discs. I brought the system back today after owning it for two weeks since my birthday. This completely rankles. I had a similar disc reading issue with my original xbox because microsoft thinks its funny to buy their drives from the cheapest source. I have never, and I mean EVER, had this many problems with a DVD-rom Drive on a PC or a PS. I wish they could make a drive that doesn't have to keep the discs spinning at mach3 just to play them. WTF, I mean the thing has a HD just do an install and let me play from their, end of issues. | |||

| There is a definite problem with xbox360's scratching disks which cant be blamed on user error. I am currently on my fourth copy of Call Of Duty 4 I keep my console in a horizontal position at all times and take the most care possible not to damage the disks even putting the disk carefully back into its box after each play. It has only been 3 weeks since I bought my fourth copy (£160 on one game so far) and already it has been damaged to the extent that two multiplayer maps are unplayable due to disk read errors and also I cant get by the 3rd single player mission due to the same problem. I think its about time ms gave a decent explaination instead because a game cannot stop working after three week due to general wear and tear | |||

| Brand new xbox 360 and brand new copy of COD5 both for Christmas, played 2 hours, left, came back to play again and disk would not read, ejected disk and found the ring around the disk. Unbelievable. I applaude Nintendo for the way they handled the Wiimote issue. They didn't deny the problem or blame their customers. They immediately alerted their customers of the issue, quickly offered reimbursement and replacements, and ultimately fixed the problem. I won't let Microsoft blame me for this. You can buy CD/DVD players that you can JOG with while they are running and they never scratch the disks. It shouldn't matter whether our xbox systems are horizontal or vertical or moved with a disk in it for that matter. The problem is that the drive is poorly designed, engineered and/or manufactured. |

| I got a 360/w GTA IV,I played for 6-11 hours now it has a small scratch on the edge wich only effects the intro but I can't play it unless I pass the intro to start. For one microsoft could've did better, they should start paying for all games their 360 scratches and Rockstar could've made the intro skippable. I hope microsoft does somthing about this or they mine-as-well stop selling any thing...any body buying a 360 I know'll regret it...I knew I should've got a Wii when I had the chance. | |||

| l am now on my second fifa 09 game,l never move the console when playing it,both games have the rub ring around them and they have BOTH crashed ! other games have scratch marks all over them, l always put the games back in the boxes after playing them so there is NO reason for the scratches other than the console VIBRATING and self scratching ! |

| i have a brandnew xbox360 (fresh out the box for four days now) and when i was playing gears of wars 2 (horizontal Position), i was almost near the end of the game then the got a error that the disc cannot be read. and when i toook it out it had a large circular ring on the outer edge of the disk. I looked at the disk before i put it in the xbox360 and it had no scratches, now there is a distinct deep scratch on the outer edge. I am starting to think why microsoft called it the "360" , is it because it leaves a distinct scratch 360° on the disc? Some one needs to inform Microsoft Development Team of this issue immediately. Well, good thing it was only a blockbuster rental though, i might be taking it back to get a new copy of the game, ill keep you updated to see if this scratch happens again on my new xbox 360 with a new disk, if so I'll be contacting xbox support @ 1-800-4myxbox |

| I've had the game Oblivion for a while and i've been playing it every day for the past few weeks. I've had no problems until a few days ago i turned on my xbox and it started fine. The title screen showed up and everything was fine. But when i tried to load my save game, half way through the loading process the "cannot read disc" thing pops up. There is a scratch around the disc just like the one in the picture. I havnt moved my xbox or taken the disc out of it. | |||

| I beg to differ to DefianT187's comment. I have not moved my 360 while a disc was playing and recently it scratched my copy of midnight club los angeles. The xbox 360 consle was not in motion and the disc still scratched. | |||
